The Society

History

 

 

The Pasay-Paranaque Medical Society (PPMS) was founded in 1959 at the Physician’s Club in Luneta.

A formal induction ceremony was held on August 11, 1959 at the Selecta Restaurant, Dewey Boulevard with Dr. Nelson Ma. Gustillo as its first official President, Dr. Manuel Galang as Vice-President and Dr. Laquindanum as a Secretary-Treasurer.

Mission and Vision

 

 

 

The vision of Pasay-Paranaque Medical Society (PPMS) is to be the most dynamic PMA Component Society in providing personal and professional fulfillment. At present, the society is composed of 1342 members who are continuing to be of service to its community.

Society Milestones

  • The Pasay-Paranaque Medical Society (PPMS) made a landmark in GENDER EQUALITY when Dr. Adelaida Marquez became the first woman president of PPMS (1964-1965) and Central Tagalog Region Governor (1986-1987). 
  • The PPMS Hymn, composed by the late Dr. Delfin Santos, is still being used and revered by all PPMS members. The lyrics embody the values of PPMS members. It serves as the moral compass and beacon of all its officers in leading the PPMS through time, challenges, and its endeavors.
  • Called for the changing times, the Amendment of the PPMS Constitution and By-Laws was led by then PPMS President Dr. Priscilla Buenavista in 1988-1989. 
  • PPMS hosted the 1992 PMA Convention and Dr. Arturo Estuita became the Representative at the PMA House of Delegates from 1992-1993.
  • In 1997, the society acquired a piece of real estate in Paranaque spearheaded by Dr. Riorita Lustestica, which was envisioned to be the location of the office of the society. 
  • Dr. Josefino Adiao became the Chairman of the PMA Foundation and Medicine Week in 2004 and 2005. He initiated the Physicians’ Singing Contest, which to this day, is still being conducted by the PPMS during Medicine Week Celebration of the Philippine Medical Association (PMA). 
  • In 2011, a PPMS Fund Raising Concert was held in the Philamlife Theater during the term of Dr. Amy Tenedero. It promoted the musical talents of a local choir group. This is a contribution of PPMS to the awareness campaign and promotion of local music talents. 
  • Dr. Rosario Go established the corporate consolidation of PPMS documents to the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and Philippine Medical Association (PMA) for due recognition of PPMS as an established corporation. 
  • Dr. Ellen Biboso spearheaded the development and eventual adoption and use of the first-ever PMA Annual Convention electronic registration system. 
  • 14 past presidents were awarded “Most Outstanding Physicians” by the Philippine Medical Association.
  • “Icasiano awards” were given to 9 previous presidents by the Philippine Medical Association and Dr. Annie Francisco was the first awardee.
